I really don't think there are other good alternatives at the moment aside from Nexus. In my opinion, while the way NexusMods implemented the whole collections thing with little to no comms with users was not professional, the way some mod authors are reacting is not indicative of the entire mod author community as there are still new mods being posted on the Nexus on a regular basis.
